Lauren Roberts/Times Record News New educational signs were created for the nature trail Friday, May 29, 2020, at the River Bend Nature Center. The center raised the mone needed for the signs in three hours on Facebook.

Three hours was all that was needed for the River Bend Nature Center to raise money for new educational signs on the trail.

Jennica Lambert, exhibits curator, has spent her quarantine during COVID-19 making improvements to the nature center.

One of these improvements was replacing the old signs, eaten by termites and rotted, with signs better suited for the environment they would be placed in.

"The ones we had originally we made ourselves out of laminated paper on plywood," Lambert said.

She created 52signs with information about native plants, insects, and animals. Anything that someone would see walking along the nature centers trails.

The nature center was able to get bulk pricing for the signs but they were having difficulty coming up with $1,700to buy them.

"We were hurting financially because of COVID-19 so in order to get them made we started a fundraiser on Facebook," Lambert said.

They raised $240 in cash donations and $1,728 online.

The extra money raised will go to feeding the animals at the center. She said that the budget for that is $500 a month.

Next week Lambert will be ordering the signs after making final edits to the signs.

"Two signs are already here. We have a honey bee and a squirrel we printed just to see what they'd look like," she said. "They're already on the trail."
