Alabamas port city, known for many things like Mardi Gras, cruises and the annual Moon Pie drop, is also known for something less exciting this year: termites.

Pest control company Orkin ranked Mobile as number 34 in the country for having the most termites. Believe it or not, the city faired better this year than last year, when they were ranked number 23.

Mobile is the only city in Alabama to make the list, according to the website, but joins many others in the South on the list. Miami takes the top spot for termites for the third year in a row.

Orkin created the list by determining which cities had the most first-time residential and commercial termite treatments from Feb. 1, 2020 until Jan. 31, 2021. According to Orkin, termites and termite damage was more widespread last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as more people were spending time at home.

Unusual weather events, like record-breaking storms and hurricanes also helped in termite growth, as moisture is what they thrive on.

Weather conditions directly impact termite swarms, Glen Ramsey, Orkin entomologist, says. Termites swarm when they are looking for moisture and food, and with fewer dead trees to invade in urban areas, termites will move to residential areas for food and moisture.

With that in mind, its no surprise that Mobile ended up on the list, due to the impacts of Hurricane Sally and Hurricane Zeta in the area.

Heres the top 10 cities with the most termites, according to Orkins list:
