Protect your wire and cable or other products fromrodents or termites with these non-hazardous, non-toxic and environmentally safe masterbatches. The active substance used is non-hydroscopic, does not migrate within the polymer, and resists leaching under typical conditions. PolyOne can also develop formulations that incorporate other properties to enhance processing or mechanical properties.

OnCap Anti-Rodent & Anti-Termite Technology is not available in North America.

OnCap Anti-Rodent & Anti-Termite Technologiesare classified as a PolyOne Sustainable Solution. Non-toxic solutions like this are increasingly required in many countries, where additives such as lindane, pyrethroids, copper naphthenate and other substances are either banned or progressively replaced.

Along with desirable dispersion properties, these additives combine safety and ease of use when processed in extrusion applications. As a substitute for metallic armor, glass roving or special engineering polymers such as PA12, which are often adopted to protect cables from hostile animal or insect environments, OnCap Anti-Termite additive concentrates and OnCap Anti-Rodent additive concentrates provide a cost-effective alternative to other methods.

These solutions avert rodents, birds or insects when used in cable jacketing or protective corrugated pipe. Laboratory tests with aggressive species of rodents and termites have proven these concentrates effectiveness in protecting end products.

Apitherapy – Wikipedia

Posted: at 10:40 pm

Apitherapy is a branch of alternative medicine that uses honey bee products, including honey, pollen, propolis, royal jelly and bee venom. Proponents of apitherapy make claims for its health benefits which remain unsupported by evidence-based medicine.[1][2]

References to medical properties of bee products can be found in Chinese, Korean, Russian, Egyptian and Greek traditional medicine practices.[3][4] Apitherapy has been practiced since the times of Hippocrates and Galen.[5][6] The more modern study of apitherapy, specifically using bee venom, was initiated by Austrian physician Philipp Ter(cs) in his 1888 article “About a Peculiar Connection Between the Bee stings and Rheumatism.”[7] More recent alternative medicine practice is attributed to the Hungarian physician Bodog F. Beck who coined the term “bee venom therapy” in 1935,[5] and to beekeeper Charles Mraz (19051999) in the latter half of the twentieth century.[8] In 1957, the USSR Ministry of Health sanctioned use of bee venom to treat certain ailments by approval of Nikolay Artemov’s “Instruction for Bee Sting Venom Apitherapy.”[9][10]

Apitherapy is promoted as alternative medicine for several uses,[2][11] but its health claims are not supported by scientific evidence.[2] Bee venom or other honeybee products are ineffective for the treatment or prevention of cancer.[1]

In general, evidence for using honey in wound treatment is of such low quality that firm conclusions cannot be drawn.[12][13]

Adverse reactions to bee venom therapy are frequent,[14] and may worsen the course of multiple sclerosis.[15] Frequent exposure to the venom can also lead to arthropathy.[16] In sensitized persons, venom compounds can act as allergens, causing a spectrum of allergic reactions that can range from mild, local swelling to severe systemic reactions, anaphylactic shock, or even death.[17]

In March 2018 a 55-year-old woman died after receiving “live bee acupuncture”, suffering a severe anaphylactic episode which the apitherapy practitioner did not respond to by administering adrenaline.[18] While stabilized by ambulance personnel on the way to the hospital, she died a few weeks later from complications resulting in multiple organ failure.[19]Live bee acupuncture therapy is unsafe and unadvisable, according to researchers who studied the case. Termites – Nozzle Nolen

What do Formosan subterranean termites look like?

Formosan colonies are the largest colonies of the subterranean termites. Can be up to 6-7 million members in a colony. Just like the native subterranean termites, there also are three different castes in the Formosan subterranean termite colony. While these castes share the same responsibilities as the castes in the native subterranean termite colony, Formosan colony members have a few physical differences:

Workers are small, white or off white and approximately 1/8 long.

Soldiers are light brown with and oval shaped orange-brown head and are a little larger than the workers.

Reproductives are yellowish-brown, 1/2 long and are sometimes winged.

Formosan subterranean termites are active year-round in Florida with an increased level of activity in the spring months when they swarm to start new colonies.

Formosan subterranean termite swarmers are attracted to light and are often discovered near windows, light fixtures, in spider webs near lighted areas, and on windowsills. These termites also feed on wood and cellulose, which can be found in plants.

Formosan subterranean termites build nests that are made up of chewed wood, soil, saliva and fecal material. These nests can be both above and below ground. The nests are typically located away from the structures that they are feasting on and can be difficult to locate.

Formosan termites are the most destructive species of termites in Florida. Formosan subterranean termite nests are much larger than that of a native subterranean termite. While native subterranean termite nests have members in the hundreds of thousands, Formosan subterranean termite nests can have nests in the millions. Their sheer numbers make them a danger as an invasive pest. They are the most destructive termite in the world. These destroyers are known to eat through such things as:

Dont Confuse Bed Bugs with These Misdiagnosed Conditions

Posted: July 13, 2018 at 9:42 pm

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, dermatologists treat over 3,000 skin conditions. At the same time, scientists and entomologists have identified about one million species of bugs, insects, and spiders, thousands of which bite or sting humans. With so many different bites, stings, and skin conditions known to us today, proper identification of bed bug bites can be a challenge and the longer bites go undiagnosed, the more difficult (and expensive) effective treatment becomes. In an effort to help infestation victims get appropriate treatment as soon as possible, weve put together a list of some common bed bug bite misdiagnoses and look-alikes.

We should begin by emphasizing that we are attorneys, not doctors. This article is not intended to substitute or function as medical advice, and you should always consult with a licensed physician if you have any questions or concerns about your health. Remember, the only way to effectively diagnose bites or stings of any kind is to have them examined in person by a healthcare professional.

Even then, you may want to consider getting more than one doctors opinion. Despite the medical training medical professionals receive, proper identification is still sometimes hindered by the fact that reactions to bed bug bite can vary, as noted by a recent study published in Clinical Microbiology Reviews. These variations, which can range from zero reaction to life-threatening anaphylaxis, are attributable to differing levels of allergic sensitivity among bite victims. Approximately one fifth of the population is estimated to be allergic to some degree.

Yet bite reaction variance isnt the only obstacle to prompt and accurate diagnosis. The issue is further compounded by the generic appearance of bed bug bites. Like many bites and stings, bed bug bites are usually itchy, raised, and pinkish-red in hue. Unfortunately, this set of qualities also happens to describe mosquito bites, flea bites, fly bites, tick bites, chigger bites, sand fly bites, and various spider bites.

In light of these similarities, here are a few tips to distinguish bed bug bites from some common impostors:

It isnt only insect bites which can cause diagnostic confusion. Certain skin conditions some of which are fairly common in the United States are also close mimics. Listed below are just a few examples.

Dermatitis Herpetiformis Also known as Duhring Disease, this is a rare condition which affects only an estimated 20,000 to 200,000 people in the U.S. each year. Duhring Disease manifests as a persistent, itchy rash composed of blisters and small bumps. This disease is exceptionally rare in children, with onset typically in the twenties or later.

Grovers Disease Similar to Duhring Disase, Grovers Disease is a rare skin condition in which itching red spots break out on the torso and back. Grovers Disease is typically seen in middle-aged and elderly men.

Miliaria Miliaria, which you might know as heat rash or prickly heat, affects approximately 3 million people in the U.S. every year. As its nickname suggests, miliaria typically occurs during the summer, and tends to affect children and infants. Caused by blocked sweat ducts, miliaria leads to itchy, pink skin rashes.

Prurigo Like Duhring Disease, about 20,000 to 200,000 cases occur annually in the U.S. Prurigo manifests as large, itchy nodules (lumps and swellings) on the arms and legs. The nodules may not be itchy at first.

Scabies Also known as the seven-year itch, scabies is caused by parasites called itch mites (Sarcoptes scabiei). Scabies, which affects as many as 3 million people in the U.S. each year, manifests as a pink, itchy skin rash comprised of blisters and bumps.

If you think youve been bitten by bed bugs, you might actually be suffering from one of these conditions. On the other hand, if you were recently diagnosed with any of these conditions, you may want to see another doctor to confirm that bed bugs arent the true cause. As the Microbiology study points out, bed bug bites are commonly misdiagnosed as:

If you suspect that your Baltimore apartment has bed bugs, and your landlord refuses to do anything about it, or is threatening to evict you for complaining, you need an experienced bed bug lawyer on your side. You may be entitled to compensation. To set up a free, completely confidential legal consultation, call the law offices of Whitney LLPright away at (410) 583-8000.
